Virtual Reality Game Design-
Touch the Painting
A Unity game to study back view impact on spatial ability and performance
What is the Game?
Touch the Mona Lisa painting!
The game is about finding some famous paintings in the Louvre Museum. Participants need to find several paintings and touch them in a maximum 20 minutes to win the game
Team- Hila, Pooja, Trishala
Goal
To evaluate a theory of "why" a wider field of view (front view + rear view) in immersed virtual reality plays a role in spatial judgement and performance
Central Research Question
Why Adding Back View in immersed Virtual Reality impacts Spatial Perception?
Tools
Hardware- Dell computer Meta Pro Max + Joystick for moving in the game
Software- Unity 3D & Rhino (for 3D computer graphics and computer-aided design)
Timeline
Discovery & Research- 10 weeks

Design & Testing- 10 weeks

3 motivations for choosing VR
-
Significant benefits like high physical immersion, high mental immersion, high interaction and imagination.
-
Covid bought more attention to virtual environments (medicine, training, education)
-
Companies have been expanding their services after Covid 19 (itsspaceVR, which creates virtual meeting spaces etc.)

User focused key interactions
-
Virtually walk through the Museum (Denon wing) while physically seated on a chair
-
Move around the building with controllers
-
Check the paintings on the walls
-
Find the targeted paintings and touch them. They will get disappear if a correct painting is touched
Game Infrastructure
-
Denon Wing of the Louvre Museum is partially 3D modeled in Rhino (half of 1st Floor)
-
80+ paintings are included
-
Three paintings are targeted to be found and touched to win the game
-
Targeted Painting-
-
Monlisa
-
Liberty Leading the People
-
Louis XIV

To get ready for the game the participants will start with a pilot session

Future Plan
-
Finish the Denon wing modeling
-
Import it into Unity and update interactions and scrips
-
After IRB approval, find participants and start data collection
-
Analyze the data
-
Write a paper!
